"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" Glenda called.  So I came out.

As Katy Perry states it plainly, I'm wide awake. It's how I feel about myself. It's how I view the world since I accepted myself years ago and "came out".  I was gay anyway; why waste my energy on being something and someone I'm not?

God loves me as I am and set me completely free.

My coming out was a spiritual rebirth and a veil was tangibly removed. God was no longer boxed in. Within a 20-minute prayer, false theologies and misinterpretations thrust on me and shoved down my throat for 30+ years no longer had strength over my soul.  I was free and began living life honestly.

Everything else has fallen into place, including happiness.  This week marks the 11th anniversary. I've never looked back to wonder whether continuing a life of lies and secrets would have been better. Nope. I'm wide awake.

I'm wide awake (x3)
Yeah, I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I'm wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong

I'm wide awake
And now it's clear to me
That everything you see
Ain't always what it seems
I'm wide awake
Yeah, I was dreaming for so long

(Pre-Chorus)
I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn't dive in
Wouldn't bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete

(Chorus)
Falling from cloud nine
Crashing from the high
I'm letting go tonight
(Yeah I'm) Falling from cloud 9

I'm wide awake
Not losing any sleep
I picked up every piece
And landed on my feet
I'm wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself - nooohooo

I'm wide awake
Yeah, I am born again
Outta the lion's den
I don't have to pretend
And it's too late
The story's over now, the end

(Pre-Chorus)
I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn't dive in
Wouldn't bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete

(Chorus)
Falling from cloud nine
Crashing from the high
I'm letting go tonight
I'm Falling from cloud 9

Thunder rumbling
Castles crumbling
I am trying to hold on
God knows that I tried
Seeing the bright side
I'm not blind anymore

(Chorus)
Falling from cloud nine
Crashing from the high
(Ya' know) I'm letting go tonight
I'm falling from cloud 9

I'm wide awake (x5)

Christian Group Shows Up To Chicago Gay Pride Holding Apologetic Signs | Practikel

What do y'all think about this? Some folks are saying, "Well, it had to start somewhere," or, "Neat!"

Personally, it has to happen and take place and be seen and covered by the media MUCH more than the one-off at Chicago.  Things like this have happened before - Chicago wasn't the first instance. This might have been the first instance that has gone somewhat viral.

For as much as churches (not only the Christian churches, but also the Mormon church, Islam, and Judaism religious groups) have stood firmly against the gay community for so long, one or two hugs affecting a small, accepting congregation isn't enough.

It didn't "have to start" anywhere, actually, but I'm glad this interaction was captured to show it's possible.

Heading to Pride weekend and a friend's birthday in DC. During the weekend, we'll also take in a a late happy hour at Town and the Blowoff dance party at the 9:30 Club (like we did last year). Looking forward to it all, too!!

However, the weather will SUCK this weekend. It's going to be hot and it's probably gonna rain in DC while we're there. Meh.

Here's hoping it all blows over! At least we won't have to walk as far to get places as we did last year at this time. We stayed in a great hotel, but it was simply too far away. A couple of weeks ago, when we went to Sharon Springs, that sort of started off the summer travel season for us, but that wasn't planned as well as this trip was. This road trip will really kick things in gear. Plus, it's the start of Pride month for us! YAY!

NYC Pride weekend is almost here!! Can't believe that the summer's just started and I feel like it's almost over. That's what happens around Pride with me for some strange reason.

There are a few things going on this Friday night. There's a dance at the LGBT Center on 13th (which we might go to), and then Blowoff, which starts around 11:30 PM. We went to Blowoff in DC a couple of weeks ago, and it was good, but folks left early to go to another party. We're planning on going to Blowoff this weekend, and maybe also the Center dance. Depends on how we feel and who's with us.

On Saturday evening, we're going on the Musclebears cruise around Manhattan (it's almost sold out!!) from Pier 40. It costs $25 and there's a ("free") dinner buffet with a cash bar (decent beer - that's what I'll be drinking). The cruise goes from about 6:00 to 10:30PM and is always LOTS of fun. Then we'll probably head to Ty's.

Then on Sunday, we typically do the parade in the Village with friends. This year, we're going to an annual brunch with friends first, then heading down to Rockbar and/or Ty's (which is harder to get to during the parade). We might hit the street fair afterward, but it truly depends on the weather, the heat, and the humidity. Looking forward to the weekend, though. Lots of friends getting together and hanging out and dancing. Should be FUN!
