As a friend recently chided me, "My commute is wonderful, blah blah blah. I can't wait to go to work in the morning, blah blah blah... Enough about your damn commute, already!" He was just jealous because he (at the time) had to drive the same route, but a little worse travel, as I did when I was working in Peapack, NJ.

But today, the ride was a bit bumpy. Apparently all the rookie train operators and bus drivers were working because it's the week before Christmas (and I say Christmas, because that's the freakin holiday...). Besides the E train downtown, I don't believe that there has been a bumpier ride for me on the way to work. You expect that kind of treatment on the E train at the end of the line - it seems that the operators on the E train can't see the end of the platform and train station to plan out the braking properly or something.

However, the great thing about today's commute was that I received the (hoped-for) NJ Transit alert in case there was a problem with the buses, the Port Authority, the Lincoln Tunnel, or whatever, that would impede my journey into the office. I have been extra wary of that kind of thing since August 8, 2007. But, today's car fire was announced and the alert sent at the proper moments and it was much easier to anticipate my travels into the office. In fact, it's seeming more and more enticing to take the light rail to Hoboken and then the PATH across - it's also a bit cheaper outside of being a quicker trip.

Whatever the case, I still after almost a full year of it find my commute to Manhattan exciting and love watching all the people. I especially love this season in Manhattan with all the extra lights, the colors, and the fanfare. All leading up to Dec. 25th - the culmination of all we've been doing since just before Thanksgiving. Then on one day and one week later, it's all over. We have a new year to start over everything again. How fun!
