Reading through this article, I noticed one sentence in particular that reminded me of fear mongers intoning misguided statements from, none other than, Focus on the Family.

"At the urging of Republicans, the bill was changed before it was passed in Congress to strengthen free speech protections to assure that a religious leader or any other person cannot be prosecuted on the basis of his or her speech, beliefs or association."

The First Amendment protects pastors and people from expressing their opinions, even the Ku Klux Klan. Why did the bill have to include anything extra just for them? Including those people in particular exposes them as weak-minded, myopic, and shallow, ill-informed, desperate, and manipulative. The Republicans and religious leaders are bound more surely than ever in that one sentence in the Hate Crimes Bill to promote hate toward minorities, in particular homosexuals, all over this once great nation.
