A nod goes out to [livejournal.com profile] mondragon in my posting this video:

Warren states that marriage has been defined now for 5000 years? 5000 years? Up to at least 2000 years ago, it was acceptable in some cultures to be a polygamist, and even today polygamy is still "secretly" practiced in Utah. Jesus didn't define marriage. The apostle Paul even discouraged people from getting married. Marriage in THIS country historically didn't become a full-fledged, full-bodied cultural institution till the late 1800s and early 1900s.

I was reading a Kathryn Kolbert commentary and like her perspectives on the selection of Rick Warren presiding over the inauguration of Obama's presidency. The mere fact that "Warren also campaigned for Proposition 8" says that he and his church should be taxed fully, which it's not, and he certainly should not be ushering in this president, no matter how much Obama and Warren disagree on things. Warren doesn't stand for change; Obama's campaign platform stood for change. If change starts with us, then we should change the religious leader presiding over this inauguration. But who?
