Tony Blair
Sep. 18th, 2008 08:22 pmThe former Prime Minister of Great Britain is going to be on the Daily Show with John Stewart tonight. How do I know? WE WERE IN THE AUDIENCE!! We didn't know who was going to be the guest on the show till we arrived and got our seats.
Then the comedian, Paul Mercurio, who started us up and got the audience geared up for John's entry singled Matt and me out of the crowd of 200+ people as a gay couple. No, we weren't wearing PINK and Matt didn't have his mascara on (tonight anyway), but Paul had just finished talking with this hetero couple on the other side of the auditorium about their 5-year relationship; they don't live together and he hasn't proposed to her. Blah blah blah. Then Paul crosses the stage and points to us, "You guys look to be having a good time so far... (crosses in front of the camera in front of us and reaches to shake my hand...) You two gay?" Me, "Yup!"
He asked how long we've been together, and I yelled, "FIVE YEARS!" The crowd went crazy laughing and looking at the guy across the stage from us. That guy wanted to punch our lights out, it seemed, so I continued saying loudly, "Oh, and we live together!" The crowd roared more, and the guy's girlfriend hit his arm. It was hilarious.
Even more hilarious was that Paul went into how we met: "Online," I said. It eventually came out that we met, not on e-Harmony, but on BigMuscleBears.com. Well, the laughter didn't start and Paul couldn't get off the floor for what felt like 10 minutes.
If you can get Comedy Central tonight, and your Tivo's not recording anything else, you should check out the Daily Show with John Stewart - Tony Blair's interesting and the interview is worth the focus - as well as the whole intro piece with Sarah Palin (or Obama - they did two takes - not sure which one will air). It was fun and totally spur of the moment - and we had the absolutely last two tickets!!
