Congestion Pricing
Apr. 2nd, 2008 08:25 amIf you haven't heard, New York City has been deliberating and Albany has been combatting the topic of congestion pricing for the city. The pricing jacks up the price of NJ residents who work in the city and drive in from $8 during peak hours to $11!! From $6 during off peak hours to $10. Practically the only people that will be paying for it is NJ residents and maybe some CT residents all who work in the city. The burrough dwellers don't have to fork out a cent, but for some reason Long Island wants to become its own state - the 51st!!! So, if they haven't thought about it, they wouldn't be able to take advantage of all the things they take for granted now. We in NJ have no recourse. There's so much more I wanna say about this, but will have to do so from a different place than my Blackberry standing on the NJ Transit light rail. Thing is, the term "congestion" is misleading - the goal of the whole campaign is not to reduce traffic in Manhattan, but to position the city for more government funding. There's no guarantee that infrastructure improvements will be made at all. For my commuting, it doesn't affect me because I use public transport, but for NJ commuters at large, it does affect us. Plus, if there were better public transportation avenues into the city, I don't think it would cause such an uproar.
