Valentine's train exchange
Feb. 20th, 2008 08:22 amLast Thursday on the light rail to Hoboken, there was an exchange between two Dominicans and one Cubana. I thought at first they were friends and had known each other before the train ride, but much to her chagrin, no.
They were talking about cars, women drivers and unibrows when I got on the train. Apparently the girl's boyfriend has a unibrow and before my advent, she had confessed that she thought his unibrow was cute. The Domincan fellaz were relentless about that. I felt kind of bad for her until she revealed that she was in school and didn't have to have a job to support herself. I suppose they were surprised by that because they wouldn't have been able to afford their lifestyle. In a way their whole attitude towards her was demeaning and chauvanistic (not necessarily alarming), especially when they asked her if shed tried anything lezbionic before. That's kind of where I turned off. I got tired of these two low-lifes berating this girl, alone in public, but at the same time I wanted her to get out of the situation and have a happier ride. Perhaps she just appreciated the attention? I don't get it.
