wwcitizen: (Which Way To Go)

Back in 2005, I became a member of www.wheresgeorge.com. It's a pretty nerdy thing to do, but can also be fun for kids. Over 4 years, 14 bills have been tracked by me - 1s, 5s, 10s, and 20s. I've had a couple of 50s now and then, but never thought to track them until after I spent them. I usually remember to enter the bills on the website when I see the stamp that people use with red ink typically on the back of bills on the bottom or top - or both. Recently, some of the 1s I got in change had stamps ALL over them - front and back - which I think is a bit much.

I entered some bills today that didn't have stamps on them to see if I get any hits on them later. Since I don't have the stamp that others have (who are more dedicated to this nerdism), went to see if I could buy one from the website. Thing is, on their website, they don't sell the stamps!! They sell t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, mouse pads, messenger bags, magnets, and lots of other things. No stamps. No stamp pads, either. That doesn't make sense, although I bet it's because by selling the stamps, they'd be condoning and encouraging "defaming" American money, which does seem kinda wrong. I remember in the 80s finding bills on which people had written notes or jokes.

When you get bills in change with those "www.wheresgeorge.com" stamps on them, do you enter them on the website? Don't those bills seem dirtier to you than bills without stamps on them?
