Wives? Pets?
Oct. 9th, 2007 01:12 am"There's a basket of candy for something you might like..."
I looked forward at the basket of candy in front of my face and said, "This here?"
"The candy's there for stars like you. You're a star right?"
"No, no, I'm not a star."
"But there are lots of shows and movies in production tonight."
"Yep, there sure are! Even down near my office." Just then I noticed the ethereal music piped in behind the candy basket. Harps and dulcimers. "Cool music."
"How many wives you got? You gotta have a lot of wives... A star like you."
"Nope; not married here... Yet."
"You got any pets?"
"Nope. Did have. Used to have a parrot."
"You got any plants?"
"Yeeeep..." (trying to think...) "We do."
"Plants are wives... You have to take care of em. You got any unseen pets? Like could be in your walls?"
"Don't think so. Keep the place pretty fumigated, but ew. Don't like to think about that."
"Those are wives too."
We arrived.
"That'll be $5.80."
I gave him $7 for the ride and he handed me his card.
"If you care to donate to a local charity, please consider donating to our homeless shelter. My family and I run a homeless shelter."
The card reads:
The DJ Taxi - Raising money for the Homeless Through the Arts, Transportation, Music, Education, and Writing. Fund Raising Charity Events - Custom mailed CDs, Private Parties, Weddings, and all Other Occasions. THE HOMELESS PATROL, PO Box 135, Gracie Station, New York, NY 10028.
