Options are nice... MULTIPLE options are EVEN better. I have essentially 5 ways to get into Manhattan and 6 different modes of transportation or connections along the way to get to work. Used to be, I had one mode of transport: my beautiful Samoa Red 4-door VW Passat with GSP, remote starter, awesome sound system (nothing really spectacular, but I like it), and two types of transmission (can't remember the name of the second one on the side - Audis and VWs have it...).

I don't miss the 100+ mile-a-day drive at all after 6 months. I miss driving my car, but I drive it - at least try to - once or twice every week. Lately, we've had to jump my car from time to time and I've been researching the best option for a solar car charger, which pumps a little energy into my battery throughout the day so that the battery doesn't die.

My new options to work and into Manhattan are:
1) Bus to Port Authority on 8th Ave. and subway to downtown (3 different lines available)
2) Bus to Port Imperial and ferry to midtown - free ferry bus downtown, or if I make it in time, the downtown ferry
3) Bus or jitney to the Light Rail down to Jersey City and the PATH to downtown.

I love having multiple options. And the best part? I'm no longer the one fighting the traffic!!

I know I've written before about my bus drivers the drive my NJ Transit buses into Manhattan. But I think I'll start entering tags specifically about their driving skills (lack thereof), their customer service (equally a lack thereof), kindness (sometimes exhibited), and radical behavior on the road to and from work. That specific tracking might serve someone a deeper understanding of what commuters go through on their commutes into and out of Gotham, but also provide insight (via analysis) into the reasons for their behavior. Perhaps, but doubtful.

Two days ago and again this morning, two different drivers switched lanes in the Lincoln Tunnel, which is illegal. I did that once for a very good reason and I made note of it to myself in case I ever got a ticket for it - because you're supposed to get a ticket for that! I was IM-ing a friend as usual in the morning, and noticed that my bus was switching lanes - both times - while talking to the same friend on two different days. I couldn't believe my eyes!

My response following the incredulity? Eh, I'm not drivin' it. It's not my license...
