I guess this will be my first real entry to the site. Well, today's Monday and I had a most excellent interview this morning. This interview will be the third for this particular company and the prospects are really cool. In fact, currently I can safely say I have abou three to four irons in the fire for a new job.

Yes, I've joined the thousands who've been adversely affected by our incessantly pallid economy since 9/11/2001. I can still remember my sister screaming into the phone, "One tower just fell! Oh, my God... the other one's falling, too. Stephen, oh my God!" I couldn't see anything, but her horrified voice through the phone chilled me to the bone and made my heart hurt. I still get torn up from it. I live very close to NYC - about 50 miles - and knew people who'd been in the towers that day, or who were supposed to be there. I also have a cousin in DC who was supposed to be working in the affected area of the Pentagon that day, but the meeting was postponed. So, now in my personal life, although there were a lot of blessings on that day, too, there are two fallouts from it: my previous worldview, and, most recently, my last gainful employment. There are other reasons for not having the job, but I won't go into those here just yet.

I suppose I should write something uplifting after that saunter into sadness...

Yes, my dad's now 80 years old. He turned 80 on Dec. 22, and we had a great time. My sister ordered and grilled exotic meats (exotic to us, mind you): yak, llama, kangaroo, bear (out of which my sister made a stew), antelope, and something else. Then she battered and fried up some frog legs served with her award-winning fried frog leg gravy (she actually did win a spot for the recipe on a cooking website - an award? not sure). I had written a poem for my father for his birthday and framed it (I've attached it to this email). I also framed a watercolor I'd painted for him for Christmas. I realize that as I get older, I much more enjoy giving gifts than getting them. Although that is fun, I do enjoy watching faces grow with surprise of my family and friends when they open something I've gotten for them. That happened a lot this year and brought me a lot of joy.

Well, I'm off to meet some friends in Princeton after their chorus rehearsal. Next entry coming later in the week.
