[livejournal.com profile] sparkygearhead's post a few days ago made me think for a couple of days (which is REALLY good!): "'If [the Republicans] put an equally unqualified, equally ambitious, openly gay man in [Palin's] position, it would take a LOT of negative influence before I wouldn't vote for him.'"

I've actually thought about this post for the last couple of days. Not sure if I agree with it - even though my knee-jerk reaction was to agree and say outloud, "Hm.". I was very interested in Hillary at first, only because she was a woman, and also because, since she helped led our country for 8 years earlier on, we would be dealing with a known entity. However, that stirred me up because after all, my immediate thought was, "Why go backwards?"

The McCain/Palin is "palin" in comparison to the Obama/Biden ticket simply because it's also remaining status quo and not progressing. If Palin were a gay man, say her handsome husband, because he'd be backing McCain, I would already have questions about him - why would he, a gay man, really want to be a Republican and remain as we are as a nation? No matter that he's gay. My first impulse would certainly be, "Great! We have an 'in'!!" But in the end, the mere fact that he would be Republican would be a huge deterrent.
