Same Sex Marriage in NJ - This just in...

Check this out - it's a list of NJ state legislators we should call - today (Apr 8, 2009) - in support of same-sex marriage. This is a Facebook note I received:

Subject: Garden State Equality Facebook members, we have the right wing on the run!

Hi, everyone, from Steven Goldstein. Today, the right-wing National Organization for Marriage emailed thousands of its members across America, asking them to contact New Jersey legislators to stop our marriage equality bill. Clearly our opponents see New Jersey as the next battleground. Over the past couple of weeks, each of you has done so much to help our fight for marriage equality in New Jersey. Please keep the heat on. That means three things:

1. Can you visit http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://eqfed.org%2Fcampaign%2FVermontEnactsMarriageEquality
where it will take you only seconds to send our pre-written email to New Jersey state legislators to tell them to follow Vermont's lead. Today, as you know, Vermont enacted marriage equality legislation when both houses of the Vermont state legislature overrode the Governor's veto of the marriage equality bill.

2. If you live in New Jersey, no matter where in the state you live, will you take a few moments on Wednesday to call three legislators' offices:

Senate President Dick Codey, (973) 731-6770
Senator Steve Sweeney, (856) 251-9801
Senator Fred Madden, (856) 232-6700

Your message to them? "Vermont just enacted marriage equality because Vermont legislators understand that civil unions do not work to provide equality. I support marriage equality and I ask you, when will New Jersey do the same?"

3. Can you spend three minutes on the phone each weekday between 9 am and 5 pm - just three minutes a day, not a second more - from your home or office for marriage equality? If so, please e-mail ThreeMinutes@GardenStateEquality.org with your name(s) and number. Those of you who've emailed us already don't have to again; we will be in touch shortly.

Thanks so much! From the heart, we appreciate all you do.
