The Big Cheese

Yesterday was really fun. Four of us went into New York for the Big Gay Expo (the annual GLBT at the Javits Center). After one of us (not me) rode the bull at the rodeo stand (the bull was powered by big, booted lesbians), we went to Greenwich Village to walk around.

It was interesting yet sad that the Expo was half the size it usually is. Cost the same ($10 with "The Internets" coupon), but there were only 2 or 3 vodka booths, one champagne booth, two or three music / actor / theater booths, and about 30 gay wedding-related booths. Oh, and we went into a party bus limousine (that we all envisioned renting for a trip to Ptown...).

After hitting a local street fair in front of the historic Stonewall, we went further down Bleeker Street to visit Murray's Cheeses.

Good thing we did, too; we discovered that they will more than likely no longer be able to carry Roquefort Cheese (a delectable French blue cheese) due to taxes - 3 times higher for that cheese than ever before. So much for a Boston Tea Party, Murray's hosted a Roquefort Au Revoir Party.

For $5, we tasted the last of their Roquefort stock and compared it to two other likable blue cheeses. Had we gotten there earlier, we could have had wine, too, but we didn't need that after an afternoon of martinis at the Garage on 7th!

It's a sad state of affairs when politics kills luxury items like Roquefort cheese; just think how much more chefs will get to charge for their Roquefort-specific dishes! Yay. More Wisconsin cheddar, please...
